Connected Communities

Voove are the Western Isles alternative internet services provider.  Since before the demise of the outdated, unsustainable and slow speeds of the Hebnet services, Voove have been providing faster and more sustainable, unsubsidised lower cost unlimited internet solutions in those hard to reach places since 2014
We welcomed the news that HIE has finally abandoned the not fit for purpose service and stand ready to service those forgotten customers who still find themselves too far for those over the wires broadband solutions.
Keeping it simple, what we are offering is Unlimted Internet for a flat fee of £35 per month, no phone line required.  Our service are backed up with local engineers and a local company that knows the people as well as the terrain.

Voove Acquires New Headquarters

We are pleased and excited to be able to finally announce the purchase of the building and surrounding land that was once the home of the Uist Laundry and Cleaning services, located centrally in Balivanich on the Isle of Benbecula.

This significant investment further cements our commitment to building and growing a sustainable business here in the Western Isles.

Further investment will be required in order to shape this land and building to the vision we have for it, the largest investment outside of the purchase will be on making the building more energy-efficient and accessible. Much of this work has started already in order to make better use of the vast space available.

Our current plans will be to consolidate the 4 premises which we occupy on Benbecula, disposing of 2 of these and moving all operations to our newly acquired centrally located Headquarters.

There are no firm timescales at this time as we are in talks with contractors across the islands as to how best to achieve our vision.

What you can expect to see in the short term will be the relocation of the Voove Team to the new Headquarters, as well as key cutting, AV/PA Hire Services and small retail currently being provided at our Market Stance location.

Followed in Late 2020 by our new technology showroom, micro datacenter, training room, electronics repair center and workshop.  We also plan to build a dedicated staff gym, study, and wellness area as part of our new promoting mental health and wellbeing at work scheme.

We would like to thank Peter Carlin of Uist Laundry and Cleaning Services for his support and patience shown throughout this acquisition of this land and building and would like to wish him well with his new ventures.

Voove Reaching for the SKY

Voove were approached by SKY In-Home Services earlier in Summer (2017) with a view to taking on the SKY Installation and Servicing contract for the Western Isles, from the Butt of Lewis to Vatersay. Covering over 14,000 households and businesses. We are pleased to announce that we have agreed to take this on for the foreseeable future.

This contract with SKY is managed centrally from 2 main offices on the Isle of Benbecula, we have since opened a satellite office in HS1 (Stornoway).

As the only technology company with offices and engineers across the entire Western Isles archipelago, we are well positioned to ensure rapid feet on the ground support as well as a consistent level of service required to meet our clients’ service levels. In order to maintain the highest level of standards and compliance, all engineers are employed directly by Voove.

Friendly Wi-Fi approved provider

Voove is proud to support the ‘Friendly WiFi’ scheme, the world’s first accreditation system designed to verify whether a business’ public WiFi service meets a minimum level of filtering to block out access to pornographic and child abuse websites. The Scheme was initiated by the U.K. Government and is managed by the RDI Trade Organization.

Friendly WiFi
‘Friendly WiFi’ aims to help parents, children and young people make informed choices about using public WiFi and protects them from viewing inappropriate material. The scheme was created and launched in collaboration with the UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS), supported by the Government and WiFi providers after concerns were raised by leading child safety charities that children and young people were being put at risk of viewing and accessing inappropriate material when using public WiFi. Voove are now encouraging all of their clients to join the ‘Friendly WiFi’ scheme and be accredited as a ‘Friendly WiFi’ venue.

Why is friendly wifi important?
Public WiFi is the same as the WiFi we use at home except there’s just lots more people using the same connection at any one time. With so many places letting you access the internet it’s really important that businesses in charge of letting you use their public WiFi take the right steps to protect you, your friends and your children from seeing upsetting, disturbing and generally not very nice images, videos or websites. It’s important that when you use public WiFi to access the internet that you feel safe and remain safe online.

How can your business be a part of this Scheme?
The Friendly WiFi symbol is available to any venues providing public WiFi, who are committed to supporting the need for safeguarding online content. The Friendly WiFi symbol is displayed by each venue signed up to the Friendly WiFi accreditation and appears either on their landing page as you sign into their public WiFi, or is visible on signage within the venue.
Voove is a ‘Friendly WiFi’ ‘Approved Provider’ meaning the company’s public WiFi offering meets the scheme’s specification, making joining the scheme a straightforward process for Voove clients.

Wherever this symbol is displayed on site or online, parents and young people can be assured that the venues displaying the symbol have the correct filters in place and their public WiFi service is safe to use

More information about the ‘Friendly WiFi’ Scheme and how to join can be found at
